We got breakfast wrong.
For decades, we were told the ideal breakfast looked something like this:
A bowl of oatmeal.
Maybe some berries.
Maybe a glass of orange juice.
If you were really trying to be healthy... two eggs.
It checked all the boxes.
Heart healthy.
Low fat.
Whole grains.
The breakfast of champions.
Looking back...
I think we were optimizing for the wrong thing.
No one was talking about muscle.
No one was talking about hitting 100+ grams of protein a day.
No one was asking whether breakfast was actually keeping us full.
Two eggs only give you about 12 grams of protein.
Even three eggs only get you to around 18 grams.
That’s a long way from the 30–40 grams I now aim for at breakfast.
The shift wasn’t complicated.
I stopped asking, “Is this healthy?”
And started asking,
“How can I make this more protein-forward?”
I stopped optimizing for “healthy breakfast.”
And started optimizing for:
30–40g protein. Minimum.
Sometimes that means adding cottage cheese to eggs.
Sometimes it’s Greek yogurt instead of oatmeal.
Sometimes it’s a breakfast burrito.
Sometimes it’s steak and eggs.
The point isn’t that oatmeal is “bad.”
The point is that if you’re trying to build muscle, lose fat, recover postpartum, or simply stop being hungry all morning...
Breakfast has to do more than just be heart healthy.
It has to help you build the body you want.
Now I rotate through my 11 favorite high-protein breakfasts (I’ll share them below), but there’s one I keep coming back to on repeat:
1 cup Greek yogurt + strawberries + 2 tbsp hemp seeds
It gives me roughly ~30g protein and ~8–10g fiber in one bowl.
They’re the meals I actually make, actually eat, and actually recommend.
Because once you stop treating breakfast like a bowl of carbs...
Everything else gets easier.
That’s why I put together my 11 favorite high-protein breakfasts for you.
These are the ones I actually eat.
Not theory. Not aesthetic food.
Just simple meals that make hitting 100g+ protein/day almost automatic.
Enjoy!
Irina
